After abandoning plans to become an architect, Swedish designer and ceramist Alexandra Nilasdotter of Studio Nilasdotter started experimenting with clay during her final year in high school. After receiving a degree in ceramics from KADK, the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, in 2017, she relocated to Stockholm. She currently works out of her ateljé in Gustavsberg, a small town in Stockholm’s archipelago that has been known for its porcelain production since the early 1800s.
Inspired by industrialism, minimalism and architecture, her passion lies in making ceramics that are functional and pure. Aside from her work as a ceramist, she is also one half of design and craft studio Normal Objects Factory. Together with Taiwanese glass maker and designer Liu Chien-Kuang, her partner in life and work, she designs and makes high-quality crafts inspired by Swedish and Taiwanese design traditions.
